The

Estate

The 300 year-old working English estate where the business of creating joy has extended to every endeavour of the Warde family for eight generations

On the 2,500 acre Squerryes Estate, high on the North Downs in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sits our chalk-rich vineyard, fed by a mineral rich aquifer nestled deep below the spiritual Pilgrim’s Way. At 150 metres above sea-level we are 1 degree Celsius cooler than most other vineyards in the south-east of England giving us a long cool summer that helps us produce our signature, award-winning sparkling wines.

About us

Our vines flourish in this longer growing season, producing fruit that has the perfect balance of natural sweetness and acidity. It is only this fruit that we use in the making of our English sparkling wine.

Having our family motto, Licet Esse Beatis, meaning ‘it is permitted to be joyful’ engraved above our front door helps to ensure this spirit of joy continues to flow into our house and through all the experiences we host here. From a tour of the vineyards ripe with fruit, to a meal in the AA Rosette Winery Restaurant, a flight of our sparkling wine in the Cork Room surrounded by the estate or private hire of The Court for weddings and celebrations.

Whatever it is that brings you to Squerryes, our priority is to make sure that when you leave, you take with you a memory that has our stamp on it: enjoyment and pleasure.

Our wines

We are proud to have won five gold medals, for five consecutive vintages in the World Championships of Champagne and Sparkling Wine, the 'Oscars' of the Champagne world, a unique achievement for an English wine brand. This is testament to the quality of our fruit grown on the North Downs and the dedication shown by our winemaking team to create the very finest English sparkling wine.

HENRY WARDE

How did you get started out in the industry?

We planted vines on the Squerryes Estate in 2006 after a visit from a Champagne house in 2004 - they wanted to buy our land for vines.
